JUSUN Strike: APC Mocks Adeleke, Says Ongoing Action Proof of Governance Failure
Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has mocked the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) administration under the leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke over the lingering strike by the state chapter of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN).
In a statement in Tuesday, signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party condemned what it called the “collapse of the judiciary” under Adeleke’s watch, following the 41-day indefinite strike embarked upon by JUSUN members.
The APC described the strike action as a clear indication of the governor’s administrative failure and disregard for the rule of law.
Osun Defender reports that the judiciary workers, led by their chairman, Comrade Idris Adedayo Adeniran, have been on strike since September 19, 2025, to protest issues including delayed promotions for the years 2024 and 2025, among other grievances.
Quoting relevant sections of the 1999 Constitution, the APC argued that the continued shutdown of courts in the state constitutes a breach of citizens’ fundamental rights and undermines the constitutional balance between the executive, legislative, and judicial arms of government.
“The absence of judicial activities in Osun for over 41 days signifies anarchy and a collective breach of citizens’ rights to have their affairs decided by a court of competent jurisdiction,” the statement read in part.
Describing the situation as “strange and dangerous,” the party said it was unacceptable for the state’s judicial authority to be “held comatose” while the government looks away.
The statement recalled that a similar strike by judiciary workers occurred last year and lasted about four months, without any decisive action from the Adeleke administration.
“It is worrisome that the Adeleke-led government appears unconcerned about the lawlessness pervading the state. The constitutional and security implications of this strike are grave — Osun is now a state where the rule of law has been effectively suspended,” Olabisi added.
The part accused Governor Adeleke of “governmental irresponsibility” for allowing a prolonged breach of Sections 6 and 230 of the 1999 Constitution, which vest judicial powers in the courts. The party further lamented that the ongoing strike has worsened economic hardship for legal practitioners and led to the continued detention of suspects in police stations and correctional centres without trial.
“The Adeleke administration has failed to show leadership or initiate dialogue to resolve this crisis. Instead, Osun people are left to suffer the consequences of a paralyzed justice system,” the statement concluded.
