Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (Kaduna Electric) has laid off 900 employees, citing the need to adapt to current challenges.

The affected workers have responded by declaring an indefinite strike.

According to sources, the company has only paid 10% of the supposed benefits, leaving many workers feeling shortchanged.

The sacking comes after a Monthly Performance Review meeting chaired by Dr. Umar Abubakar Hashidu, Managing Director and CEO of Kaduna Electric.

In a statement, Kaduna Electric explained that the decision to sack the workers was not taken lightly, but was necessary to adapt to current challenges.

The company claims that the workers’ net benefits will be credited to their accounts, while their pension will be paid into their retirement savings accounts “in due course.”

The statement read, “We refer to your offer of employment and write to inform you that your services will no longer be required by the company, effective January 31, 2025.
