Kaduna Primary School In Ruins As One Teacher Handles All Classes Without Toilets, Furniture

A primary school in the Badagari community of Kaduna State has been thrown into public spotlight over its worsening state, as pupils are reportedly learning in deplorable conditions with no toilets, no furniture, no windows or doors, and only one teacher handling all classes and subjects.

The Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) Primary School in Badagari, according to a report by civic technology platform, Monitng, mirrors what it described as a “national disgrace,” questioning how such a situation could persist in 2025 despite the disbursement of over ₦250 billion in Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) funds to state governments.

The group said the school’s condition was evidence of systemic failure and gross negligence, calling on Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State to urgently intervene and salvage what is left of basic education in the area.

“The school operates with only one teacher, who is left to handle all subjects and classes alone. This is the reality for children in this community forgotten, abandoned, and forced to learn in an environment not fit for animals, let alone human beings,” Monitng revealed in a statement.

Findings by the platform showed that the school infrastructure is dilapidated, with no functional classroom furniture, no sanitation facilities, and buildings exposed to the elements due to lack of windows and doors.

Monitng further raised alarm over the apparent mismatch between public spending and realities on ground, stressing that despite the massive UBEC allocations meant to improve learning environments and employ more teachers, rural schools like the one in Badagari remain in a state of neglect.

“This level of decay is inexcusable. Instead of addressing these urgent issues, the Kaduna State Government appears to be more invested in media campaigns and public relations efforts that paint a false picture of development,” the platform stated.

It also criticised both the present and past administrations, including that of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, for failing to prioritise education in underserved communities, stating that what is happening in Badagari is only a snapshot of the broader collapse in public education infrastructure across the state.

“This rot did not begin today. Both the previous and current governments have failed to live up to their responsibilities. While political accolades are pursued, the future of children is being sacrificed,” it continued.

Monitng called on the Kaduna State Government to immediately deploy resources to restore dignity to the school, noting that the pupils deserve safe, conducive, and functional learning environments like their peers in urban centres.

“This is not charity — it is a right. The children of LGEA Primary School Badagari deserve better. They deserve classrooms with furniture, toilets, and more than one overworked teacher,” the statement concluded.
