Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, Kano State’s Director-General of Media and Publicity, has suffered a devastating personal loss.
His 15-year-old son, Sadiq Modibbo Bature, passed away following complications from a bone marrow transplant in India.
Sadiq had bravely battled sickle cell anemia since birth, and the transplant was intended to improve his quality of life.
Unfortunately, post-surgery complications affected his brain, leading to his tragic demise.
Sanusi Bature shared the heartbreaking news on social media, remembering Sadiq as a bright, well-behaved young boy who endured immense pain due to his condition.
“Throughout his life, Modibbo has suffered from sickle cell anaemia which he underwent a successful bone marrow transplant this month in an Indian hospital. Unfortunately, he died as a result of post-surgery complications in his brain,” Sanusi Bature said.

“The body of our beloved Saddiku would be brought back home in few days for burial in accordance with Islamic rites in my hometown, Dawakin-Tofa. Date and time would be announced on arrival of his remains,” he added.
Mourners have taken to social media to offer condolences and memories of Sadiq. Mukhtar Yahya Usman wrote: “I extend my deepest sympathies to you and your family on the heartbreaking loss of your beloved son, Sadiq Modibbo Bature. This is truly a profound and painful loss, and I am deeply saddened by the news.”
Hamza Ibrahim Baba also shared his condolences: “Alhaji Sanusi and Hajiya Aminatu please take heart. May Allah reward you for all you have done to him, for all your efforts to save his life.”
The family plans to bring Sadiq’s body back to Nigeria for burial in Dawakin-Tofa, in accordance with Islamic rites.
