Katsina Governor Speaks From Hospital After Road Accident
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has assured citizens of his recovery after being involved in a road accident on Sunday evening along the Daura–Katsina expressway.
In a short video message released on Monday, the governor, who appeared to be receiving medical attention at a hospital, said, “We had an accident but we are recovering, we thank God. We are here (at the hospital), they are taking care of us so that we can recover, we appreciate all your prayers.”
The clip, which has since gone viral, comes amid public anxiety and online speculation following initial reports that the governor had sustained a fracture and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Daura.
The first mention of the incident surfaced on social media via a tweet by Mohammed Jammal, popularly known as ‘White Nigerian’.
“Reports indicate that Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State was involved in a car accident while travelling from Daura to Katsina. He sustained a fracture and is currently receiving treatment… Thankfully, he has been stabilised,” the tweet read.
The report stirred concern across political and public circles, prompting an outpouring of prayers and well-wishes from Nigerians, even as others expressed scepticism over the details.
Amid the growing speculation, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, issued an official clarification, describing the incident as a “minor road accident.”
In his statement, Mohammed affirmed that Governor Radda was in good health, stable and undergoing medical checks as a routine precaution.
“We are pleased to confirm that the Governor is in good health and stable condition, with no serious injuries sustained. As a precautionary measure, the Governor is currently receiving routine medical evaluation at a medical facility, where he is being attended to by qualified medical professionals,” he said.
He added that the Governor was in high spirits and extended heartfelt appreciation to Almighty Allah and to the people of Katsina State, alongside numerous Nigerians who have shown concern.
Although the exact cause of the accident remains unclear, it is believed the governor was returning from a visit to Daura.
Speculation has also mounted that the trip may have been related to recent developments surrounding the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Radda had drawn public attention during Buhari’s funeral rites after he was spotted visibly emotional during the military honours segment, a moment that struck many viewers.
As of press time, the governor remains under medical supervision, but sources close to the state government insist that he is expected to resume duties soon.
