Keyamo Drags Anti-graft Agencies To Court, Demands Prosecution Of Atiku
Festus Keyamo, a spokesman for the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) presidential campaign council, has filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Abuja against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices, Offenses and Other Related Crimes Commission (ICPC), requesting the detention and prosecution of Atiku Abubakar, the PDP’s presidential candidate.
In the lawsuit, the Minister of State for Labour, Employment, and Productivity requests that Atiku Abubakar be detained and charged by the ICPC and EFCC.
The lawsuit was filed after the anti-graft agencies’ earlier 72-hour deadline to take action and arrest the former Vice President in response to an alleged revelation by self-described whistleblower Michael Achimugu had passed.
An earlier letter from the Senior Advocate of Nigeria, dated January 16, was sent to the heads of the EFCC, ICPC, and CBC. Since his request in the letter was ignored until the deadline passed, he is now requesting an arrest.
Keyamo contends that Atiku ought to be detained and charged with violating the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, money laundering, criminal breach of trust and misappropriation, and conspiracy.
Recall that Michael Achimugu, Atiku’s former aide, said in several controversial videos that Atiku and Olusegun Obasanjo, when Atiku was Vice President between 1999 and 2007, conspired to defraud the nation by utilizing what he called “Special Purpose Vehicles” (SPVs).
