President Bola Tinubu’s decision to scrap the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development has sparked a wave of mixed reactions across the country.
Osun Defender had earlier reported that Tinubu made the announcement of scrapping the ministries during the Federal Executive Council meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday.
He also said the responsibilities previously held by the Ministry of Sports Development will now be transferred to the National Sports Commission, which will take charge of sports-related activities in Nigeria.
“The National Sports Commission will take over the role of the Ministry of Sports,” he stated.
Additionally, the FEC approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, creating a single entity.
Meanwhile, scores of Nigerians on X formerly Twitter have taken to their handles to react to the development.
While some Nigerians have applauded the move, seeing it as a necessary step towards streamlining governance, others have condemned it, expressing concerns about the potential impact on vital sectors.
Supporters of the decision have commended Tinubu for his boldness in restructuring the ministries, arguing that it could lead to more efficient use of resources and improved focus on national priorities.
