The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, has been summoned by the Kogi State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja.
The tribunal requested Cardoso’s presence on Tuesday, April 23rd, to explain the central bank’s role in the state’s November 11, 2023, election.
It was learnt that the tribunal summoned the CBN Governor based on an application on Monday by Alex Izinyon (SAN), who serves as the legal representative for the Governor of Kogi State, Usman Ododo.
Following the non-compliance of the CBN governor or any bank officer with the tribunal’s subpoena issued on April 18, Izinyon opted to transfer the application.
He noted that he was informed that the CBN management stated in a letter to the tribunal that they wouldn’t be able to attend until Friday, April 26, citing their subpoena application.
He pointed out that, despite Ododo’s intention to present his witnesses within five days, addressing the subpoena is a priority before the governor proceeds.
Muritala Ajaka, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the election, is contesting the declaration of Ododo as the winner of the Kogi State governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
