Kwankwasiyya Movement Denies Reports of Kwankwaso’s Defection Plan to APC

The Kwankwasiyya Movement has strongly rejected recent rumours suggesting that its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is considering a defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) or any other political party, describing such claims as false and deliberately misleading.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Dr. Habibu Sale Muhammad, the movement said, “We have observed with deep concern the rising circulation of speculative reports, commentaries, and televised opinions alleging that our principal engaged in negotiations or made demands to defect to the APC.

“We state clearly and categorically that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has never entered into any discussions, negotiations, or meetings with the APC, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, or any intermediary for the purpose of defection. These claims are entirely baseless.”

The statement criticised the media for amplifying unverified reports, reminding journalists that the profession is built on investigation, balance, and factual accuracy—not speculation, gossip, or conjecture disguised as insider knowledge.

Dr. Muhammad clarified that the last formal meeting between Senator Kwankwaso and President Tinubu took place in January 2024. “

“No discussions regarding defection, political bargaining, or party alignment occurred at that meeting. Claims that Senator Kwankwaso made high demands or overreached himself are fabrications,” he said.

He further emphasised that Kwankwaso maintains long-standing personal and political relationships across party lines—a normal feature of a democratic polity.

“In the absence of verified facts, no individual, analyst, or media organisation has the right to speculate or draw conclusions, particularly on matters as serious as defection or political bargaining,” the spokesperson added.

The statement warned that the reports appear to be part of a coordinated attempt by sections of the political elite to undermine Senator Kwankwaso’s relevance ahead of future political realignments.

“Ironically, many spreading these narratives are individuals who themselves have defected to the APC and are seeking to justify their actions through revisionist storytelling,” Dr. Muhammad noted.

He described Senator Kwankwaso as a politician of discipline, integrity, and principle, whose strength derives from the people, particularly the downtrodden, rather than elite consensus or media speculation.

He urged Nigerians to disregard misleading reports, speculative opinions, and manufactured analyses circulating in parts of the media.
