Presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 election, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has lashed out at party members in Kano State who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing their action as the highest form of betrayal.

Kwankwaso made the statement on Friday at his Miller Road residence in Kano while receiving supporters from Takai Local Government who refused to join the APC.

Among those who recently dumped the NNPP for the APC is Senator Abdulrahman Kawu, who represents Kano South Senatorial District, alongside some federal lawmakers from the state.

Though Kwankwaso did not mention names, he said, “Kano South is a lesson. Voters rejected superghetti, N200 and Atamfa and were patient to vote for the NNPP.”

He accused the defectors of abandoning the very party that gave them a platform to win elections and turning their backs on the masses.

“There is no worse political sin than leaving the party that gave you the opportunity and support. This is the highest level of betrayal,” he declared.

He warned Nigerian youths to be wary of politicians who prioritise personal gain over public interest.

Kwankwaso also applauded those who returned to the NNPP fold, saying those who betrayed the Kwankwasiyya Movement would live to regret their actions.

“Fighting Kwankwasiyya is not an easy task. They will realise it only when they try,” he said.

NNPP’s Kano State Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, also praised the returnees and assured them of fair treatment within the party.

The meeting was attended by prominent party leaders, including Senator Rufai Sani Hanga (Kano Central), former Commissioner for Religious Affairs Falali, and Takai LG Chairman, Ibrahim Faruruwa.
