The Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development has announced the reopening of schools across the state on Monday, January 5, 2026, except in areas currently under special security measures.

A statement on Sunday by the ministry’s Press Secretary, Peter Amogbonjaye, said that the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Oloriegbe, had ordered all public and private primary and secondary schools to resume academic activities on the stated date, excluding locations under special security surveillance.

“We welcome our children and teachers back to school across the state. Learning activities are to resume immediately in all but areas earlier identified to be under special security surveillance,” Oloriegbe said.

He added that the phased resumption was intended to protect pupils and students amid ongoing security operations.

“This structured school resumption is designed to keep our children out of harm’s way amid renewed security operations. Normal school activities will resume in such places very soon,” the commissioner said.

The ministry, in collaboration with the Teaching Service Commission and the State Universal Basic Education Board, also extended New Year greetings to pupils, teachers, and parents, wishing them a prosperous year and a successful academic session.

In a bid to broaden access to learning, the ministry has introduced a radio-based education initiative supported by UNICEF and the Nigeria Learning Passport, set to commence on January 5.

According to the statement, radio lessons will air on Midland FM 99.1 at 11 a.m. on Mondays, 1 p.m. on Wednesdays, and 2:30 p.m. on Fridays, with plans to expand to other radio stations across the state.
