The Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin has approved sanctions for staff and students who flout the COVID-19 Health Safety Guidelines.
The sanctions, according to the polytechnic’s COVID-19 Technical Committee in a memo obtained by OSUN DEFENDER, were to prevent further spread of the virus on campus as school activities gear up.
While the committee enjoined students and staff of the institution to adhere strictly to the guidelines, especially the usage of face mask, it also equally warned that appropriate sanctions were in place for defaulters.
Listing the offences and penalties for staff, the committee said any staff found raising false alarms through any means would first attract a warning letter and subsequently forfeiture of a month salary and rustication for one semester for students.
For failure to wear face mask, the culpable staff would be initially issued a warning letter and later pay a fine of N1, 000. A student who so infract would, however, be suspended for a semester.
Other offences related to non-observance of COVID-19 safety protocols, like violating physical distancing, hand-shaking, hugging, kissing, among others, for staff attract a warning letter, then public display of names of violators and fine of N1,000 and one semester suspension for students.
Acts of insubordination by any staff would be punished in accordance with the institution’s conditions of service and a semester suspension for students.
