Lagos APYF Lauds APC’s Direct Primary Adoption

The Lagos State Chapter of All Progressives Youth Congress (APYF), a youth group under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has lauded the party’s decision to adopt Direct Primary to pick its candidates for the 2019 general elections.

Recall that the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole had said the adoption of Direct Primary is to grow democracy and to give party members a sense of belonging.

The National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, had also recently at the party’s stakeholders’ meeting which held in Lagos announced the party’s adoption of direct primary.

In a statement on Monday by the State Cordinator, Doctor Sola Osindero, he said that the adoption of Direct Primary to choose candidates across board will make APC a stronger party and will set a new standard in Nigerian’s democratic culture.

His words: “When the news of direct primary filtered out, our party witnessed renewed reinvigoration across the state and the country.

“Democracy is defined as a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them, and in the direct primary the people decide who represents them.

“Direct Primary is more participatory, it gives all party members sense of belonging, it also serve as a preliminary election, and it deepens democracy.

“We as a youth organization support this and we hope the party will stand resolute on its decision to adopt open primaries.”

Osindero further renew call for the party to embark on aggressive membership registration across the country for more young people to take part to take charge.
