Lagos LG Poll: APC Dismisses Allegations Of Electoral Malpractice

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has rejected accusations of electoral malpractice levelled by opposition parties following the recently concluded local government elections.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the party’s spokesperson, Mogaji Oluseye Oladejo, the APC described the claims as “baseless,” “ill-advised,” and lacking substance.

The party maintained that the election process was transparent and conducted in line with legal and procedural standards under the supervision of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC). It added that civil society observers and other stakeholders also participated in the process.

“The outcome of the elections reflects the will of the people and affirms their continued confidence in the ruling party’s track record of performance and service delivery,” the statement said.

APC accused the opposition of engaging in a public smear campaign rather than pursuing legitimate legal avenues for redress.

“We have noted with concern the baseless and ill-advised efforts by certain opposition parties to discredit the recently concluded local government elections. These attempts, marked by misinformation, sensationalism, and outright falsehoods, are not only a disservice to the democratic process but also an insult to the people of Lagos who participated in a peaceful, transparent, and credible election,” Oladejo said.

He further stressed that the party remains committed to democratic values, the rule of law, and effective governance.

“We categorically reject the unsubstantiated claims of electoral malpractice being peddled by the opposition, whose actions seem driven more by desperation than by a commitment to democratic ideals. Lagosians will not be misled by political actors who resort to theatrics instead of engaging meaningfully with the electorate.”

He called on opposition parties to respect the will of the people as expressed through the ballot and prioritise the state’s stability and progress over partisan interests.
