Lagos Threatens To Shut Down Ikoyi Federal Marriage Registry
The Lagos state government has told the Ikoyi Federal Marriage Registry, that it would be shut down if they fail to work towards the complains already laid against them.
Lagos state said that the registry will be shut down if an immediate solution is not proffered by the owners as its patrons always constitute a nuisance through indiscriminate parking on the road among other environmental offences.
It also issued 14 days grace to owners of illegal structures on Victoria Island, Ikoyi and Lekki and environs to remove such infractions or face prosecution according to the state’s environmental law. This came following approval by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for the commencement of enforcement of the Clean-Up of the inner streets of Ikoyi, Victoria Island and Lekki environs.
The Chairman and Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Mr. Tunji Bello who made the remarks yesterday, explained that the measure became necessary in order to restore the original plans of the areas as well as ensure sustainable environment for residents. According to Bello, “The Governor gave the go-head after receiving a briefing from the committee on the completion of the first stage of the exercise which involved the major streets. Meanwhile, the Lagos @ 50 Planning Committee yesterday unveiled range of activities for the final celebration of the State’s Golden Jubilee anniversary.
Addressing a world press conference at the Banquet Hall in Lagos House, Ikeja, Co-chair of the Lagos @ 50 Planning Committee, Mr Habeeb Fasinro said the final lap of the celebration would kick off on Saturday, April 8 and culminate on Saturday, May 27, 2017. Fasinro, who was joined at the conference by other members of the Committee including Professor Ademola Abass, Hon. Adebimpe Akinsola, Mrs. Sarah Boulos, Mrs. Chika Balogun, said the events lined up for the celebration has been carefully selected to tell the story and journey from 1967 when the State was created till date. He said the event would kick off on April 8, with a special Musical Play tagged “Wakaa” produced and directed by ace producer and director, Bolanle Austen-Peters at the Muson Centre, Onikan Lagos.
