Lagos to Reconstruct Police Stations Damaged During #EndSARS Protest
The Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has finalised plans to reconstruct police stations that were destroyed during the 2020 #EndSARS protests.
Olusegun Dada, Special Adviser on Social Media to President Bola Tinubu, shared the development on X on Monday.
Executive Secretary of the Fund, Ayodeji Ogunsan, disclosed the plans to reporters at the LSSTF office in Alausa over the weekend, according to The Nation.
He said, “The Fund has got a partner in the rebuilding. The police stations yet to be rebuilt after the destruction have been inspected and work would soon kick off on them.”
Ogunsan, who became executive secretary in October, pledged to enhance accountability, broaden the Fund’s support network, and ensure contributions result in improved street security.
“Thanks to these partnerships, the Fund has over the years invested in critical assets such as patrol vehicles, communication equipment, bulletproof vests, marine assets, training for personnel, and other vital tools that have helped law enforcement safeguard our communities,” he said.
He also thanked Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the confidence placed in him, describing his appointment as a call to service.
Ogunsan emphasised the importance of embracing innovation, strengthening collaboration, and providing swift, modern, and people-centred responses to emerging security challenges.
The #EndSARS movement began as peaceful protests against alleged brutality by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad but escalated into violent clashes across Lagos, leading to the destruction of police stations, courts, and other public buildings.
The upcoming reconstruction is expected to address key security gaps left in the aftermath of the 2020 unrest.
