Dear Editor,
I am writing to express my deep concern about the hazardous conditions at the Lameco intersection in Osogbo, Osun State, which have been exacerbated by the ongoing construction of an underpass bridge.
The road diversion implemented as a result of the construction has created a plethora of problems, including gridlock, accidents, and dust pollution, putting the lives of commuters and residents at risk.
Upon observation, it was noted that a significant amount of sand had been piled on the road, causing a hazardous obstruction. The presence of diversion signs at key locations, were utterly ineffective in containing this chaos, leaving motorists to navigate the confusion without adequate guidance.
Most disturbingly, some motorists risk their lives by climbing over the sand pile to continue their journey, with no traffic authorities on hand to enforce safety protocols or maintain control.
This situation is alarming and demands immediate attention from the Osun State Government. The lack of effective traffic management measures has turned the junction into a nightmare, with commuters facing frustrating delays and accidents becoming increasingly likely.
Moreover, the dust generated by the construction activities has become a significant health hazard, affecting the well-being of those living and passing through the area. Making vehicles and motorist ply a muddy road during rainy seasons; And dust filled road during summer.
I implore the authorities to take swift and decisive action to address these issues.
I hope some of the solutions highlighted below can help in solving these issues;
1. Implementing effective traffic management measures, such as deploying traffic wardens and installing temporary traffic lights.
2. Providing alternative routes to reduce pressure on the diverted road.
3. Enhancing dust control measures, such as sprinkler systems or regular cleaning.
4. Ensuring adequate signage and lighting to prevent accidents.
I hope your newspaper will highlight this critical issue, prompting the government to take necessary action to alleviate the suffering of commuters and residents.
Sincerely,
Anuoluwapo Owolabi
