Lamido Alleges PDP Governors Blocked His Chairmanship Bid
Former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, has accused PDP governors of blocking his bid to become the party’s national chairman, citing concerns over his independence.
In an interview with the BBC Hausa Service on Sunday, Lamido alleged that Bauchi State Governor and PDP Governors Forum chairman, Bala Mohammed, called him to abandon his candidacy, warning that the governors would be unable to influence him if he assumed the position.
Lamido recalled telling Mohammed, “Bala, the governor of Bauchi, called and said, ‘My elder brother, you are stronger than us. If we make you chairman, we can’t influence you.’ But I told him, ‘When PDP was formed, you were not there; you didn’t know the party. You are a new man in it. The party with history should not be possessed by one person.”

He said he was denied a nomination form and had to resort to the courts, but the governors allegedly defied the court ruling and appealed against his suit.
Lamido rejected the party’s new leadership that appointed Tanimu Turaki as chairman, describing the convention as “null and void.”
He urged PDP stakeholders, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, to intervene and restructure the party to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy and development.
