The Chairman of Atakunmosa West Local Government, Osu, Hon. Francis Famurewa has cautioned the people of the local government and the state at large not to panic because of Lassa Fever outbreak in the state.
Famurewa while addressing his constituents on Thursday said fears do not prevent Lassa Fever, telling the people to strive hard to do everything humanly possible to prevent the spread of the disease in good state of mind.
He said: “It is now a must duty to keep our home, office, environment and community clean at all time. This must be done individually and collectively in the interest of all. In as much as we choose to remain hygienic and follow all the preventive measures/steps as highlighted by our health experts, we will conquer Lassa Fever.
“Lassa Fever is a viral hemorrhagic fever and it was first discovered in the Northern Nigeria in 1969 and as at 24th January 2020, 195 cases have been confirmed and 29 deaths had been reported in 11 States according to Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC).
“But there is nothing to fear because the State Government, under our amiable Governor AdegboyegaOyetola is on top of the matter and his capability to curtail and defeat the disease is not in doubt because the wellbeing of the people is his utmost priority.”
