An outbreak of Lassa fever in Ondo State has resulted in the deaths of 12 people, with 112 confirmed cases recorded so far.
The Statistician-General of the state, Olusola Ajayi, disclosed on Wednesday that a total of 353 suspected cases had been reported, describing the situation as worrisome.
He urged sanitation workers to intensify efforts in maintaining cleanliness to curb the spread of the disease.

“We are in this together and must act swiftly. Currently, Ondo State has 353 reported cases of Lassa fever, out of which 112 have been confirmed, and 12 lives have been lost. This is the time to take action,” he said.
Last week, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Health, Dr Adeniran Ikuomola, noted that nearly 400 suspected cases had been recorded, with over 100 confirmed.
“We have around 400 suspected cases and over 100 confirmed. While I may not provide an exact death toll, we have unfortunately recorded fatalities,” he stated.
