LASTMA Warns Against Union Stickers On Private Vehicles
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has warned transport unions and affiliates against fixing ‘union stickers’ on private vehicles in place of valid registration numbers.
General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, issued the warning in a statement on Sunday by the agency’s Public Affairs Director, Mr. Taofiq Adebayo.
Bakare-Oki described the act as a violation of regulatory standards, a serious security risk, and an attempt to undermine lawful vehicle identification systems within Lagos.
He stressed that every vehicle must be duly registered through authorised government agencies responsible for vehicular regulation and enforcement.
According to him, unauthorised identifiers compromise public safety, obstruct effective law enforcement, and weaken statutory registration protocols.
The LASTMA boss said the Lagos State Government would not tolerate attempts to evade established procedures with unlawful stickers or symbols.
He added that LASTMA, working with security agencies and other enforcement bodies, would step up surveillance along major routes to ensure strict compliance with traffic laws.
He warned that vehicles carrying unauthorised stickers would be impounded, and offenders would be sanctioned in line with the law.
Bakare-Oki urged transport union members to obey registration laws, saying proper registration safeguards public order and the collective security of Lagos residents.
He appealed to stakeholders for cooperation in sanitising the transport sector, assuring that enforcement would continue to protect lives and property across the state.
