Lawmaker Empowers Constituents With Vehicles, Other Materials

The lawmaker representing Olorunda State Constituency, Hon Waseeu Adebayo last Tuesday distributed empowerment materials to members of his constituency as a means of making them self-reliant.

The event was well attended by party leaders and intending aspirants including the Speaker of the state Assembly, Hon. Najeem Salaam; the deputy governor, Mrs Grace TitiLaoye-Tomori; Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Moshood Adeoti; the State Party Chairman, Prince Gboyega Famodun; the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Akintunde Adegboye and former Commissioner for Information, Oluomo Sunday Akere among other dignitaries.

Speaking at the gathering, the Deputy Governor commended the lawmaker for deeming it fit to give back to the people, who voted him to represent them at a time the economy of the country suffers setback and people experiencing difficulty.

She added that party members needed such empowerment programme in a bid to make them self-sufficient to provide means of livelihood for their households.

Similarly, the Speaker and SSG in their separate remarks used the opportunity to appeal to party members to remain loyal to the course of the party, stressing that more democratic dividends would be delivered if the party enjoy support of the masses.

The duo also commended the member of the House for making empowerment scheme an annual event for his constituents and urged him to continue the good work for the sake of prosperity.

Prince Famodun, in his address sought cooperation of all party members towards making the APC victorious in future elections including governorship election in 2018, pledging that the party would come up with a choice the people would like.

He charged other elected officials to emulate the good gesture of Hon. Adebayo and give back to those who vote for them before returning to seek for their support again.

The lawmaker, while speaking disclosed that the objective behind the programme is to make sure that the level of poverty among party members is reduced to the barest minimum and to further give opportunity to those with potential to excel.

He added that the mini-bus (korope) is to make sure people get empowered and gradually pay back the actual amount without interest and take over the ownership of the vehicle, while the money when fully returned is recycled into the project so as to provide vehicles for others.

He said in the five years of the programme, over eight vehicles have been given to beneficiaries, while over 50 hairdressing equipment have been given out to women, 50 generating sets, newspaper stands and over 100 women across the eight wards have been given soft loan to support their businesses.

He urged beneficiaries to remain committed to the schemes with a view to making others benefit in the future.
