“Learn From Bisi Akande” – Osun PDP Slams APC Over Attacks On Tinubu-Adeleke Meeting
The Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a swipe at the All Progressives Congress (APC) over what it described as a shameful and unwarranted verbal assault on the Presidency, following President Bola Tinubu’s recent hosting of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Osun PDP Chairman, Hon. Sunday Bisi, described APC’s response to the meeting as “disgraceful” and “ignorant,” noting that the party’s conduct betrayed a lack of understanding of democratic engagement and intergovernmental courtesy.
“The vitriolic outbursts from APC stalwarts since President Tinubu welcomed Governor Adeleke at his Lagos residence show a total disregard for decorum and an alarming ignorance of democratic principles.
“Such conduct is beneath the proud Yoruba tradition of mutual respect and civility, Bisi said.
Bisi reminded the APC of historical precedence, citing the example of former Osun State Governor and APC chieftain, Chief Bisi Akande, who hosted then-President Olusegun Obasanjo for three days during his administration, despite political differences.
According to him, the gesture was a demonstration of maturity and leadership focused on the development of Osun State.
“That’s how real governance works. Perhaps today’s APC chronic minnows should seek wisdom from respected leaders like Baba Bisi Akande on the true meaning of leadership and statesmanship,” he said.
The PDP also condemned the APC’s consistent pattern of disrespect towards government officials, referencing previous instances when the Osun APC allegedly attacked dignitaries such as First Lady Remi Tinubu, House of Representatives member Ado Doguwa, and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, merely for acknowledging Governor Adeleke’s performance.
Hon. Bisi affirmed that Governor Adeleke remains committed to exploring all democratic avenues, including engagements with the Presidency, to advance development initiatives for the people of Osun.
He concluded by urging the APC to abandon petty politics and instead engage in constructive dialogue aimed at the state’s progress, commending Governor Adeleke for his consistent focus on peace, progress and purposeful governance.
