Ahead of the local government elections in Osun, the State Independent Electoral Commission, OSIEC has been urged to guard he electoral process diligently and strive for positive distinction from previous electioneering processes.
The advice was handed down to the OSIEC team during a courtesy visit to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Osun State office, Osogbo.
This was made known in a statement signed by the Osun INEC Public Affairs Officer, Oluwaseun Osimosu and made available to OSUN DEFENDER on Saturday.
The Osun INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Mutiu Agboke while welcoming Hashim Abioye, the OSIEC chairman and his team, added that there was need for both commissions to foster collaboration and sharing valuable insights between them.
Agboke revealed that there were key issues that could enhance the successful discharge of their duties and foster a free, fair, and credible electoral processes in Osun State
In his words, these includes, “regular engagements with the electorates to address public perception.
“Interface with public officials to ensure a smooth electoral process, designing election processes with minimal public rejection, ensuring sanity in the recruitment of Ad hoc staff and,
“Building public trust by guiding the electioneering process diligently and maintaining openness with the media and the general public.”
Agboke also assured the OSIEC team that INEC is committed to the collaboration and mutual support between the two electoral bodies.
In his response, Abioye assured Agboke that OSIEC would implement the provisions of the INEC Electoral Rules and Guidance.
