The Lions Club International, District 404B2, Nigeria has pledged to donate N100 million Diabetes clinic to Os un and Ekiti States to reduce the effect of diabetes related diseases in the states.
This was disclosed by the District Governor of the club, Lion Dupe Dada at a press conference held to herald the 5th district convention of the club tagged Ilesha 2019 in Ilesha, Osun State.
According to her, the Osun clinic is already completed, functional and handed over to the authority of General Hospital, while that of Ekiti is scheduled for completion December this year.
She added that the project would include equipping the clinic, capacity building and outreach programmes for three years.
The DG stated that during the year under review, the club has conducted over a 100 cataract surgery for the less privilege, 20 glaucoma and distributed over 1000 eye glasses for the teeming populace across the region.
Responding to question from journalists, she lamented the decline rate of culture of serving the less privilege among Nigerians, stressing the need to reverse the unfortunate trend.
“People no longer join service-oriented organisations, may be, due to the lull in the society, but notwithstanding, there is an urgent need to inculcate the value of service among the young populace in the country to instill leadership qualities among them.
“We must all, as a matter of duty, join service organisations to serve humanity, particularly the under privilege in the society, this is the only way to make our country progress”, she added.
