Mr Femi Falana, a human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) on Thursday accused the President Muhammad Buhari and the Presidency on the lopsidedness that characterized his federal appointments.
Falana made this allegation when he was hosted as a guest in a programme title “Morning Show” on ARISE TV. He stated it categorically that Buhari’s policies and appointments were the cause of the existing division in the country.
The human rights lawyer tackled the rulling class and classified them as being backward and shortsighted by deliberately dehumanizing and enslaving citizens which compelled them to sell their votes for peanut.
According to Falana, “At the moment, Nigerians are divided because of the bad policies of the present government. Let me tell you, there’s a particular one we have just taken up from our movement. The President sent nominees for members of the governing council of the Human Rights Commission.
“Our movement, having studied the list discovered that it was a total lopsidedness. In the list we have one region of seven states, out of four people nominated in that region, three came from same State, which is Kebbi state.
“of the six geo-political zones nobody was nominated from the North East which records the highest number of human rights violations because of the counter-insurgency operations going on there.”
The human rights lawyer affirmed that he has written to the Senate, imploring them to advise the President to withdraw the list and take into consideration issues raised as regard the appointees and comply with the provisions of Section 14 (3) of the Constitution and Section 4 of Federal Character Commission (Establishment etc) Act.
Falana, while speaking, made it public that a new political movement would arrest the unpleasant drift and put make the laws to function.
Falana said, “We are going to expose the contradictions in the system to our people and mobilise them, Nigerians are the easiest people to govern to the best of my knowledge”.
Falana also used the TV show to call on Nigerian youths to unite themselves and prepare for leadership.
