LP Candidate Reveals Why He Lost His Anambra Polling Unit

Labour Party candidate in Saturday’s Anambra State governorship election, George Moghalu, has explained the reasons behind his defeat in his polling unit.

Speaking on ‘Sunday Politics,’ a programme on Channels Television, Moghalu said his loss was largely due to vote-buying by some of his opponents.

He explained that he could not compete with the large sums of money offered to voters by other candidates, and he chose not to engage in similar practices.

“Yes, because I couldn’t afford how much that was being paid. I couldn’t pay, and I refused to pay, I refused to get involved. So, they have too much money to buy votes, and what do you expect my people to do? They fell because a lot of them are poor,” he said.

Moghalu accused the ruling party in Anambra, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), of being at the centre of the alleged vote-buying.

He noted that several party agents, some of whom had been arrested for vote-buying, were seen wearing APGA tags.

“Some of them are on record as having been seen purchasing votes. There’s even a commissioner who was also caught on camera buying votes in my particular constituency,” he added.
