Ashiru Nura, a businessman, has demanded the sum of N1.5 million from his wife, Zainab Bello who was seeking a divorce in a Shari’a court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna, Kaduna State.
Osun Defender gathered that the demand was made by Nura after his wife prayed the court to dissolve their union through Khul’i, a situation where a wife returns the dowry she received to redeem herself from the marriage.
He said, “My wife caused me great loss. She destroyed my phone and took some of my belongings, which made me later go into depression.”
The man also begged the court not to give his wife custody of their baby.
The complainant had earlier told the court that she was ready to return the N80,000 dowry she received from the defendant and prayed for the custody of their three-year-old child.
Bello also denied destroying her husband’s phone.
The judge, Malam Isiyaku Abdulrahma, adjourned the case.
