FOR raping and impregnating a minor, a 35-year-old man, Tunde Oyedokun, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by an Osogbo magistrate’s court.
Oyedokun had earlier pleaded not guilty to the offence when he was first arraigned before a magistrate’s court in Osogbo on June 25, 2019.
But when he was brought to court on Tuesday, Oyedokun changed his plea, admitting that he committed the crime.
The convict was said to have raped a 13-year-old Stella Akinloye of No.5, Balogun Street, Omigade area of Osogbo sometime in April 2019.
Akinloye, according to the Police Prosecutor, Fagboyinbo Abiodun, got pregnant as a result of the illicit sexual intercourse and later gave birth.
Abiodun said the teenager lost the child during labour.
The prosecutor stated that the accused person also unlawfully and indecently assaulted the girl during the rape process, maintaining that the offences contravened Sections 218 and 222 of Criminal Code, Cap 34. Vol. II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
However, Oyedokun pleaded guilty to the allegations and he was subsequently convicted by the Magistrate, Mrs. Modupe Awodele.
Awodele sentenced the accused person to 10 years imprisonment for rape and two years on assault, which should to run concurrently.
