Man Bags 3 Years Jail Term For Fraud

By  Adesewa Adekunle

Adewumi Ademurele, 33 has been found guilty of stealing N290,000 and consequently sentenced to three years imprisonment.

He was said to have defrauded one Oyelade Adebayo the sum of N290,000 from him under the pretence of supplying him planks for construction of his building and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 418 and punishable under section 419 of the criminal code, cap 34 Vol II laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.

The convict was first arraigned on May 21, 2018 and had since been granted bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties on the agreement that the matter would be settled out of court.

Presiding Magistrate, M.A Awodele said when the convict refused to show up, the police went after him and got him arrested on the day he was celebrating a naming ceremony, after which he was remanded in prison.

The magistrate subsequently offered to grant the convict time for his relatives to pay the money in question to the complainant.

But while responding, Ademurele said there was no way he could pay the money from prison.

Subsequently, the magistrate sentenced him to three years imprisonment.
