An Osun Magistrate Court sitting in Osogbo on Monday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Abideen Damilola, to seven years imprisonment for burglary. Abideen faced two count charges bothering on housebreaking and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Oladoye Joshua, had informed the court that the accused was seen within the premises of one Aderanti Ganiyu, at about 9:00pm at Ota- efun, Oshogbo.
Joshua said that Abideen conducted himself in criminal act by breaking into the house of the complainant. He explained further that the complainant called all the members of the community to challenge the accused person which led to him being taken to the nearest Police station.
The Prosecutor said the defendant stole 21 inches of mattress valued at N70,000, a 12 by 12 rug valued N15,000, two big and one small cooler whose worth is yet to be unknown, and two pillows valued N3000. The total valued of items ascertain was N98, 000. Inspector Oladoye Joshua submitted that the offence contravenes section 390 of the criminal code cap 34 vol.ll laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2003.
Abideen Damilola who had no legal representation pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against him. The Magistrate, Mrs Falilat Sodamde, sentenced the accused person to seven years imprisonment with no option of fine.
