Man Beaten To Pulp For Allegedly Stealing ₦400,000 From POS Operator

A man was brutally beaten to pulp by a mob in Benin City, Edo State, for allegedly stealing ₦400,000 and a phone from a Point Of Sale operator.

The incident occurred at the Luck Way axis, Ikpoba hill area of Benin City.

The suspect had visited the POS operator’s shop, pretending to buy snacks and drinks for a burial.

He requested biscuits, drinks and other items, but while the operator prepared these, he snatched the bag containing her money and phone.

Narrating the incident, the woman said: “I provided the items for him and I was about to pack them inside a polythene bag when he demanded for a bottle water. As I went back inside to get the water, he entered the shop and picked the bag containing my money.

“As she brought out the water, he asked her to calculate the items and that he wanted to get a bottle of groundnut oil from the nearby shop. But to my surprise, he didn’t enter the shop, he said he was going to. It was then I checked and my bag was not there, and I raised the alarm, which attracted youths in the area who chased and caught him.”

She added that her bag containing the money and phone were recovered from him, but unfortunately, he was beaten to a pulp by the mob before the police came to arrest him.
