Man Beats Wife To Death Over N10m In Ondo

A 42-year-old man, Kelechukwu Onuka, has allegedly beaten his wife to death over an argument about N10 million in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Onuka, who is a businessman allegedly killed his wife over the said money at their residence in the Aratunsi area of Oke Aro, Akure, Ondo State capital.

A source told LEADERSHIP Weekend that the man who hailed from Anambra State accused his wife of hiding the money from him as they operate the same business.

The source further explained that the husband and his wife were jointly running a cosmetics store at popular Oja Oba in the state capital.

It was also learnt that one of the deceased’s family members who resides abroad sent her N10 million to assist in constructing a building for her.

According to the source, the wife never mentioned it to her husband, but he was said to have later heard the information from someone else.

The husband was said to have been annoyed with his wife’s action and consequently confronted his wife, Nnena Kelechukwu over the N10 million sent to her.

The source said, “It was during a heated argument between the couple that the already tense man reached for a heavy object with which he hit his wife on the head and she died instantly.”

He further added that the husband has been arrested by men of the Ondo State Police Command at “B” Division and the case has been transferred to the state Police Headquarters.

One of their neighbours, identified as Mrs. Grace Adebowale, said they heard their voices from her section of the house and assumed it was their normal fight.

“It is unfortunate that it turned out this way because she told me she needed a good contractor that will help her build her sister’s house for her, as she wished to take a labourer from Akure to their village as it’s cheaper for her.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer( PPRO), Funmi Odunlami, described the case as domestic violence.

Odunlami, who disclosed that the fight occurred in the early hours of the day, advised that couples should learn how to handle matters with maturity.

According to her, “If there is something wrong, they should learn to know the appropriate steps to take when they are angry and not let it end this way.”
