Man Caught Exhuming Corpse Of Labourer Inside Kwara Farm
The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a farmer, identified as Haruna Umar, who was caught allegedly attempting to exhume the corpse of a farm labourer.
The incident happened in Taberu, Okuta District of Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The deceased, simply identified as Gunu, according to reports, had been working for another farmer, Halidu Yakubu, before he went missing.
Yakubu was said to have raised concerns over the disappearance, but efforts to trace the labourer yielded no result.
According to a resident, the case took a new twist when Yakubu, while passing by a nearby farm, sighted the suspect digging the ground suspiciously.
“He accosted him and after a back-and-forth, the suspect admitted that he was about to exhume the corpse of the deceased, who was killed and buried there,” the source told Daily Trust.
The spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident on Tuesday, adding that it was a case of culpable homicide.
She said a hoe and stick used by the suspect to dig the grave were recovered from the scene.
“Umar and another suspect, Aminu Gona, were later arrested in connection with the killing and they have confessed to the act. A third suspect, known by the nickname ‘Focuse,’ is said to be on the run.
“Efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect are ongoing and the arrested suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations,” she added.
