Man In Court Over Burglary

A 22 years old man, Sunday Iyiola has been arraigned before an Osogbo magistrate court on Tuesday for stealing a laptop worth N200,000 and other materials with the total value of N362,000.

 

The charge sheet read in the court disclosed that the accused person committed the offence on the 9thday of July, 2017 at about 3:00am in Oke-Arungbo community, Osogbo. According to the charge sheet, the accused person did break and enter into the dwelling house of one Ajani Charles Oluyemi and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under  section 411 (2) code cap 360 vol. 11 laws of the Osun state Nigeria 2003.

 

The charge sheet disclosed that the accused person and others at large on the same date, place and time, stole one Alcatel mobile phone valued at N90,000, one Dell laptop valued at N200,000 and a wallet contained a sum of N72,000all total valued N362,000 only and there by committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 390(9) of the criminal code cap 34 vol. 11 law of the Osun state Nigeria 2003.

 

The accused person pleaded not guilty to the three count charges leveled against him. The defence counsel, Okobo Najite prayed the court to grant bail to the accused person in the most liberal term relying on his client’s innocence and also relying on section 365 of the Nigerian 1999 constitution as amended and section 118 (2) of the Osun state criminal code.

 

Najite assured the court that the accused person will provide reliable sureties and would not abuse the opportunity if granted bail. The police prosecutor, Inspector Fagboyinbo Abiodun said the discretion to grant bail was that of the court. The presiding magistrate, Ayo Ayeni granted the accused person bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum.

 

He then adjourned the case till November 14, 2017 for hearing.
