Man Electrocuted During Attempt To Steal Transformer Cables

A suspected thief whose identity could not be ascertained was on Monday electrocuted while allegedly attempting to steal transformer cables in Jattu community in Etsako West LGA of Edo State.

According to a source, residents of the area woke up in the morning to see the corpse of the suspect dangling on two electric poles where a transformer was sited.

“A resident who saw the dead body of the middle-aged man on the pole early in the morning raised the alarm,” the source said.

The source noted that the suspected thief had cut the cable beneath the transformer, packed it aside and climbed up the electric pole to cut the four long cables that connect light to the transformer to the low tension wire.

He added that officials of Benin Electricity Distribution Company came and evacuated the corpse.

But the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, said he was yet to be briefed about the incident.
