A 62-year-old man, Adamu Danga, has been arrested for alleged sexual assault of a six-year-old girl around the Numui cemetery area in Bosso Low Cost, Minna, the Niger State capital.
The suspect, the medium learnt, lured the victim who was sent on an errand by her mother to the cemetery area where he allegedly defiled her.
Adamu was however caught in the act by a passerby who raised an alarm and subsequently pursued by a mob, arrested and taken to the Bosso Police Division.
Confessing to the crime, Adamu said he defiled the girl due to intoxication as he drank some quantity of palm wine which he bought on his way home from the farm.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Wasiu Abiodun, who confirmed the incident said the suspect was caught pants down and on top of the minor.
He said a preliminary investigation was conducted at the Divisional Police Headquarters and the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further action.
Abiodun said that the victim was taken to the Police clinic for a medical examination while the suspect confessed to the crime, adding that the case was under investigation and the suspect would be arraigned in court for prosecution immediately upon conclusion of investigation.
