Tragedy struck Ridawa village in Ghari Local Government Area of Kano State on Wednesday after an excavation pit collapsed on brick workers, trapping about 10 persons underground.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of the day while the victims were digging earth for brick-making.

Eyewitnesses said the workers were inside the pit when it suddenly caved in, burying many of them beneath the soil.

There are fears that some of the trapped workers may have died, while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Rescue efforts reportedly began immediately, with residents and emergency responders working to reach those buried under the rubble.

As of the time of filing this report, some of the victims were still trapped, raising concerns over their chances of survival.

The member representing Ghari/Tsanyawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Sani Bala, confirmed the incident, stating that about 10 persons were believed to be trapped.

He called for urgent government intervention to rescue those affected and prevent further loss of lives.

However, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, said the agency had yet to receive an official report on the incident.

“We have not received any report on the incident. The Ghari office has also not been informed. As soon as we get details, we will provide updates,” Abdullahi said.
