Many Feared Dead in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway
At least ten vehicles were involved in a catastrophic crash on Wednesday morning at New Gariki along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, leaving commuters in shock and body parts strewn across the road.
The accident, which occurred close to the bustling Gariki Market, involved four trailers carrying cattle and goods, two commercial buses, two Sienna vehicles, and several smaller cars that were crushed under the overturned trucks.
Although the exact death toll had not been confirmed at the time of reporting, the scene suggested a heavy loss of life.

A witness described the crash as happening “in a flash.” “People were driving one-way at high speed. Before we knew it, trailers and vehicles collided, and everything was scattered. People were shouting for help,” he told SaharaReporters.
Traffic gridlock worsened until about 20 soldiers arrived in four gun trucks and a Black Maria, directing traffic and carving out a narrow lane for stranded motorists.
Their presence brought some order, but rescue efforts remained slow and emotionally overwhelming due to the scale of destruction and the number of victims trapped beneath the trailers.
As of the time of filing this report, emergency responders were still struggling to reach victims and recover remains.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the cause of the crash or the number of casualties.
