Mass Shooting Leaves 13 Wounded, 2 Dead In Toronto
Toronto Police has confirmed that a woman had died and 13 others injured after a shooting on Sunday evening in the Canadian City of Toronto.
At least 15 people, including the shooter, were shot near a restaurant. Among the injured is a young girl in critical condition. Police confirmed that the shooter had been killed after an exchange of gunfire with police.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene in Toronto’s Riverdale neighborhood near Danforth and Pape Avenues around 10pm on Sunday night. All those injured have been taken to local hospitals. Witness Jody Steinhauer has told CBC she was at a restaurant on Danforth Avenue with her family when she heard what sounded like 10 to 15 firecracker blasts.
Toronto has been grappling with a sharp rise in gun violence this year. Deaths from gun violence in the city jumped 53 percent to 26 so far in 2018 from the same period last year, with the number of shootings rising 13 percent.
Toronto deployed about 200 police officers from July 20 in response to the recent spate in shootings, which city officials have blamed on gang violence.
