Manchester United’s summer signing, Noussair Mazraoui, is set to miss the next two months following a diagnosis of cardiac arrhythmia, Daily Mail reports.
This setback comes as Manchester United grapples with their worst-ever start to a Premier League season, having secured only eight points from their first seven matches.
Italian journalist Nicolo Schira revealed that the 26-year-old right-back, a £17 million acquisition from Bayern Munich, has been diagnosed with the condition, which affects the regularity of heartbeats.
Cardiac arrhythmia can cause the heart to beat too fast, too slow, or in an irregular pattern, but with proper medical care, the condition can often be managed effectively.
Mazraoui has been a key figure in Erik ten Hag’s squad, featuring in all of United’s Premier League matches this season.

His absence will be a significant blow for the team, which is already contending with injuries to other key players, including £52 million signing Leny Yoro, who has been out since pre-season.
Daily Mail reports that this is not the first time Mazraoui has faced heart-related health issues. In January 2023, while playing for Bayern Munich, he was diagnosed with heart tissue inflammation after contracting COVID-19. This condition forced him to miss Morocco’s historic World Cup quarter-final victory against Portugal.
Mazraoui’s heart condition is the latest in a series of cardiac-related health scares among professional footballers. His Manchester United teammate Christian Eriksen famously suffered a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 match against Finland but made a remarkable comeback after being fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD).
Similarly, former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero retired from football in 2021 after being diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmia while playing for Barcelona.
