Similoluwa Okunowo, a fresh graduate from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Obafemi Awolowo University, has emerged as the overall best graduating Student with a 4.93 CGPA during the 47th Convocation of the university held last weekend.
In an interview with newsmen, he recounts the journey to his academic achievement and shares his future aspirations.
The young graduate who hailed from Ijebu East in Ogun State, when asked about how he was able to emerge as the overall best-graduating student, he said, “First and foremost, gratitude to God, my family, lecturers, and the OAU community for their invaluable support. Relentless effort, rather than sheer brilliance, was the cornerstone of my academic strategy. I just kept showing up! I never visualized this outcome. It still feels surreal, and I’m genuinely humbled by the recognition.
When asked on why he chose to study Electronic and Electrical Engineering in OAU, Okunowo said, ” I’m passionate about Science, Technology, and innovation, and EEE is at the forefront of shaping the future. OAU provided the opportunity to pursue my passion.
” I took organized notes and used spaced repetition for long-term retention. Regular problem-solving and teaching concepts to others contributed to my success.”
“I encountered challenges but family support and love, along with music, were my motivators. Those challenges shaped my character and work ethic positively.”
The young graduate who enjoyed learning coding said he wants to use his skills to contribute to humanity’s advancement through technology and address real-world challenges sustainably.
While giving advise to students, he said, “Show up every day! Consistent dedication, focus, and discipline will be your greatest allies on the path to academic excellence. Also, be yourself, and never raise the white flag.”
