First Lady of the United States of America Melania Trump is on her first major trip to Africa without her husband.
The first lady left Washington for Accra, Ghana’s capital to begin her week-long trip on Tuesday.
She will then visit Malawi, Kenya and Egypt, though the White House did not disclose further details about her itinerary citing security reasons.
Trump will focus on maternal and newborn care in hospitals and education for children, the first lady’s office said in a statement. The first lady chose Africa as her destination as it had long been on her wish list of places to go, according the White House.
She said her trip would take her to “four beautiful and very different countries in Africa.”
All four countries receive U.S. aid, with Egypt receiving large sums of military aid in addition to humanitarian and development assistance.
