Mexican Grand Prix: Hamilton and Bottas go head to head

By Christopher Emenyonu

In what will be a battle for the title, the Mexican Grand Prix will go down this weekend with lots of memories to be made. With the constructors’ title done and dusted, attention now is on who will win this season’s world title.

Following the victory in Suzuka at the Japanese Grand Prix, Mercedes’ drivers, Hamilton aiming for his sixth title and Bottas, his first are solely challenging for the championship and with less than four races to go both will be looking to push for it.

Despite not having a good run in Mexico’s atmospheric Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, the silver arrows will need to find a rhythm to push one of their drivers more to the title.

Hamilton vs Bottas

The win at Suzuka got the Mercedes crowned champions of the constructors for a sixth consecutive time but their drivers now go head to head for the title. Bottas won the Japanese Grand Prix while Hamilton last won in Russia; even though both have not been solid in Mexico since 2016, they need a bite of their last wins over the weekend.

Mathematically, Hamilton if he can have a podium finish will be crowned champion but he has not achieved that since 2016 even though he has sealed his last two titles in Mexico. The team will be weary of the Red bull who has won in North America twice repeatedly.

Red bull aiming for a third

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has already won two races this season and even more he has won the last two races in Mexico which makes him a big threat over the weekend.

Having good outings in the last few races, Verstappen will be looking to ride on his luck again to get another podium finish for this season. The team sit third on the constructors’ standings while Verstappen is in fourth on the drivers’ standings. However, Red Bull will face a fierce test from Mercedes and Ferrari.

Unstoppable Ferrari

With Ferrari’s good form since the summer break, they are automatically a rival ahead of the race in the weekend. Both of their drivers, Charles Lerclerc and Seb Vettel winning races since then, with the latter coming second in Suzuka.

Ferrari’s pace has made them a force to reckon with and will be looking to continue in that good light in Mexico.

The Mexican Grand Prix will hold this weekend before the season heads to the United States for the second North American Grand Prix.
