Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has ruled out a return to England, insisting he wants to stay with his Chinese Super League side Tianjin Teda.
Mikel has been linked with a January move to Everton but the former Chelsea midfielder has branded reports as a “false rumour”.
“I don’t know from where such a rumour could come, but this story is untrue,” Mikel told Tianjin TV.
Mikel joined Tianjin TEDA in January and the deal runs until 2019.
“I want to stay in the CSL and play for [Tianjin] TEDA. I’m sure there will be lots of speculation about me as the transfer window nears but it is a false rumour
“The CSL lags behind the Premier League, but their level is still quite high. I believe more matches will help me get in shape for the 2018 World Cup.
“I just hope to stay injury-free next year and have an amazing season with TEDA”
