Minimum Wage: Tinubu Invites Labour For Talks

President Bola Tinubu has invited the organised labour consisting of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress to a meeting at the Aso Villa on Thursday.

The meeting, Osun Defender gathered is for the Federal Government and organised labour to agree on a new national minimum wage.

Punch reported that a close source in the labour leadership who craved anonymity made this known on Wednesday.

According to him, Tinubu is willing to settle the lingering talks on minimum wage on Thursday and has invited the joint union presidents to a meeting.

The medium had reported that the President of the Trade Union Congress, Festus Osifo, on Tuesday, insisted that the N250,000 benchmark remains the ideal minimum wage for workers in Nigeria.

Osifo also stated that TUC and the Nigeria Labour Congress were meeting with officials of the Federal Government to reach an agreement on the minimum wage.

He made this known at the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Women Commission’s maiden Annual Convention in Abuja, with the theme, ‘The Dynamic Woman: Navigating Challenges in a Constantly Evolving World.’

Osun Defender reports that the Federal Government and Organised Private Sector have agreed on N62,000 as the new minimum wage, but labour is insisting on N250,000.

Osifo while speaking at the program, said negotiations on the new minimum wage have not been abandoned, rather labour and the government were fine-tuning the matter.
