Missing Man Found Dead In Osun River
Tragedy struck in the peaceful town of Ibokun, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, on Wednesday, as the lifeless body of a middle-aged man, identified as Kehinde Ijebu, was found floating on Oyile River, barely a day after he was declared missing.
OSUN DEFENDER reports that the late Kehinde, a familiar face within the Ibokun community, was said to have left home on Tuesday evening, but never returned, sparking concern among family and neighbours who commenced a frantic search for him.
The search ended in sorrow on Wednesday morning when passers-by raised alarm after sighting a body floating on the river.
Upon closer inspection by residents and relatives, it was confirmed to be Kehinde.
Sources within the community disclosed that the deceased had been battling depression, and there are growing suspicions that he might have deliberately ended his life due to an undisclosed health condition.
“He had been behaving strangely for a while. People say he had a health issue and was withdrawn. It’s unfortunate, a resident said.
The Osun State Police Command, through its spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident.
He stated that no visible sign of violence was observed on the body upon recovery.
“The family informed us that they wanted to bury him quickly, but we advised an autopsy. They declined. Investigation is ongoing,” he said.
Kehinde was buried at the riverbank by family members around 11am, after traditional rites were reportedly performed.
