A middle aged woman in her late 30s was on Thursday night beaten to stupor by an angry mob in Ile-Ife, State of Osun.
The suspect who identified herself as “Iya Funke” was alleged to have stolen #5000 from a shop at Ojoyin community in the town.
An eyewitness, Mr Favour Lawal said, ” I came here to buy rice around 8:30pm at a shop, suddenly I saw people shouting thief thief running towards my direction, I saw a woman who was chased by some area boys in the community for stealing #5000″
She was pounced on beaten mercilessly, dangerous weapons like axe, burning stick among others were used to beat her to stupor.”
“She was however rescued by community leaders who prevented her from being lynched.”
As at the time of filing this report, the woman was rescued by the community leaders and has since been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
