Mob Lynches Two Suspects For Stealing Motorcycles
Two men were lynched by a mob on Friday after several motorcycles believed to be stolen were discovered in a residential apartment in Makurdi, Benue State.
According to witnesses, the incident began when a commercial motorcyclist traced his allegedly stolen bike to a house on Tarzaan Iyortyer Street, along George Akume Way.
He alerted his colleagues, who then converged on the location, finding the two suspects and numerous motorcycles, including the victim’s own.
A witness, identified as Asongo, said additional motorcycle parts were also recovered, suggesting a possible connection to a larger organised crime network.
Police Public Relations Officer of the Benue State Command, DSP Udeme Edet, confirmed that 11 suspected stolen motorcycles were recovered from the apartment, along with 47 motorcycle seats, fuel tanks, criminal charms, three mattresses, and a single-barrel firearm.
Edet said the suspects initially fled but were caught and lynched by members of the public opposite the BIPC Company along George Akume Way before police arrived.
The victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Wadata, where they were confirmed dead.
Their remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary, and the State Criminal Investigation Department has taken over the case.
