Money Politics ‘ll Soon Kill Nigerian Political System if not Curtailed – Bisi Akande

By Ismaeel Uthman
The first interim National Chairman the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande has said that money-bag politics would soon kill Nigerian politicians and political system if not curtailed.
According to Akande, money-bag politics has eroded the core values of politics which is to serve the people, saying that Nigeria politicians are sitting on a time bomb with the practice and growing of monetization of politics.
Akande stated this recently in his opening remarks at the meeting of Osun APC Elders Forum tagged ‘Agba Osun’ held at his country home in Ila, maintaining that the introduction of money-bag politics into the political system is detrimental to the development and progress of Nigerian political system.
He warned the APC leadership not to deviate from the politics of service to the people, no matter the pressure being promoted by the general outlook of corruption that forms the foundation of the country’s problems.
In the communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the APC elders also frowned at what they described as ‘strange political practices being imported to the South West especially, politics of stomach infrastructure, money politics and politics of self aggrandizement.
The APC elders stated that the ‘alien political practices’ were already eroding the core value of progressive politics to almost non-existence.
The communiqué signed by Engineer Sola Akinwumi, the chairman of the group, reads: “The leaders frowned at strange political practices being imported to the South West especially, i.e. politics of stomach infrastructure, money politics and politics of self aggrandizements.
“These type of politics is alien to us and is already eroding the core value of progressive politics to almost non-existence. This should be discouraged as it portends serious danger to our democracy.”
They meeting emphasized the need to enforce party discipline and reward loyalty as it used to be in the past.
According to the APC elders, the July 8 bye-election for Osun West Senatorial District would be won by the party, just as they called on every elected and appointed political office holders to make sure that they deliver their various constituencies.
The party elders urged all members of the APC with one grievances or the other to eschew bitterness and work for the success of the party in the July 8 election.
